Do You Believe in 2019?

Here we are one week into 2019! I had a feeling this year was going to be something tremendous, and the first seven days did not disappoint. There were great connections, great opportunities, high sales, and bookings, but there were also great crises. I say great because my essential resolution for 2019 is to believe in it— wholeheartedly. That means, whatever happens, I will view every aspect as a triumph unfolding. The Big Reveal of 2019 is that I believe everything that transpires in these 365 days has a purpose. I am no longer just going to know it passively, I am going to own it actively.

Right after the first most amazing four days of any new year, I can remember, I went into my outside basement to find my water heater overflow valve had stuck open and steamy liquid had been pouring into my basement for who knows how long. Earlier that morning, my senior citizen pup, Ruby Red, had stopped eating and gotten sick. Then there was a text from my credit card company letting me know that someone was having a Happy New Year with my stolen numbers.

You know what I did? I owned these events, and by that, I did everything in my power to alleviate the issues, and then immediately stopped stressing about them. The service technician found the problem with the water tank, and I'm sure a new unit is in my future. On the flip side, the unit lasted twice as long as it should have. Ruby Red spent two days in the doggie hospital, and her team is doing what they can to discover the root of her illness. I had to cancel overseas travel and eat the non-refundable fee (can you believe travel insurance doesn’t cover sick pets as family members?) and reschedule meetings, but I am thankful to be here by my pup’s side for however long we have together. My credit card got cancelled, and I already have the new one.

The first curveballs flung my way by 2019, I didn’t even take a swing at. I let them fly right on by. I need to save my energy and resources for when a real target of opportunity demanding my full efforts heads straight for me. If you want to change the way you feel, change the way you think. If you're going to change the way you think, read tremendous books and spend time with tremendous people. If you're going to change the way you behave, be purposeful in controlling how you are going to react to various scenarios in your life.

Last week I shared The New Common Denominator of Success and many of your ordered copies. This week I want to highlight, As a Man Thinketh, by James Allen. One of my favorite quotes is, “They themselves are makers of themselves by virtue of the thoughts which they choose and encourage; that mind is the master weaver, both of the inner garment of character and the outer garment of circumstance, and that, as they may have hitherto woven in ignorance and pain they may now weave in enlightenment and happiness.” Now that’s just plain gold!!

So, this year, what are you going to make yourself into? Whatever it is, you’ll have to believe it with all your being and own it through and through. Events don’t make us, our responses do. This timeless little gem will remind you of this eternal truth again and again and help you weave the external events with your inner character in a way that will make you believe in 2019!

Events do not direct our lives, our attitudes do. We can decide the type of day we are going to have by our attitude. Outcomes are not made by our events, they are made by our attitude and our Creator. We need to rejoice in the day/ time we have in this life.

Our life’s outcomes are in our attitude. People don’t have the final say, our attitude and our Creator does. We need to believe in ourselves, with whatever we go through, and be glad and rejoice in the day we have/ time we have on earth.

Well said, Tracey. “Events don’t make us, our responses do.” Tremendous truth in those few words.
