So, how do you stay on course toward achieving your goals? One surefire way is to focus on your mission statement, which is the guiding compass for your success.
What is a Mission Statement?
Your mission statement defines your purpose, assignment, or job. Unlike a vision statement that looks to the future, your mission statement is about the here and now. Think of it as a concise job description centered on three key points:
- Why – Why does your organization exist? What problem do you solve, and what motivates your work?
- Who – Who do you serve? Identify your target audience or community. The more specific you are, the more impact you'll have.
- How – How do you deliver your services? Highlight what's unique about your approach and methods.
Begin with the phrase, "My company exists to…" and let it flow from there. Your mission statement should inspire you to get out of bed each morning and change the world.
