Leadership Lessons from Aesop's Fable: The Wind and the Sun

Tracey Jones
As March winds sweep through Pennsylvania, heralding the arrival of spring, it's the perfect time to reflect on timeless wisdom encapsulated in Aesop's fables. One such tale, "The Wind and the Sun," offers profound insights into leadership dynamics and the distinction between commitment and compliance.

Producing a Tremendous Harvest

Here comes my favorite season of the year—fall. I can see the day’s becoming slightly shorter; I watch for a leaf or two to begin transitioning to flames of gold and red; I hear and see the birds starting their migration to their new home. In South Central PA, the harvest is a sight to behold. This year's rain and sun ratio were magnificent. I have never seen fields of corn as high and green as the ones that fill our landscape. Autumn is the time of year when we look to the harvest and reap the products of our labor.

The Right People is about personnel. You can’t get it right without the right people and you can’t create chicken salad from chicken crap. All the laborers in the field have to be committed; otherwise, you're going to have waste. Assemble a team of great fellow laborers who are common people who produce uncommon results. The harvest is indeed plentiful, and you’ll need help to carry the load.

Be intentional in your words and deeds this week. Watch what you allow into your head and space and seek out those things that are true, and right, and kind. Be unattached to the future. We'll do the possible, but let God do the impossible. Soon you’ll come to the full realization that if someone or something doesn’t manifest in the way you’d hoped it does not detract from your glorious future in any way, shape, or form. Lastly, find ways this week to pour into others, whether in word, or deed, a phone call, or a visit. Your action could be the singular reason someone decides that life is worth living. Don’t let that opportunity to bless and be blessed pass you by.
