From Scary to Merry
It's supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, yet for many, Christmas 2020 is turning out to be the most frightening time of the year. Let’s alter our perspective on what’s swirling around in our heads. Christmas wasn’t always so merry and bright. If we go back to the first couple of Christmases, there was plenty of fear and angst there as well. Let’s look at our ancestors and see how they handled events.
The Gift of Adoration
Each of us has been created to reach out beyond our own grasp. Christmas is a reminder that we are all imprinted with the Imago Dei, the God-seed, within us, and that God wastes nothing, not even our darkness. For that and that alone, I am willing and eager to give the gift of adoration.
Tremendous Christmas in July
Last year, Tremendous Leadership had the honor and privilege of being the lead sponsor for A Tremendous Christmas at the Italian Lake in Uptown Harrisburg. This event benefitted Bethesda Mission, located in Harrisburg, PA. This organization provides a men’s, women’s and children’s shelter, along with a medical and dental clinic. We raised $8,565 to help meet the increasing need of more bed space, develop a new women’s shelter and renovate and expand a community center for the youth of Harrisburg.

I was nine years old and the depression was still in full force. We came from Alabama and settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in a little row home, which my father managed to rent. It was getting near Christmas and my dear dad had nothing to spend for Christmas for his five children ages 1 to 9. In desperation, he went to the bank to try to persuade them that he was a safe risk for a small loan. He explained his predicament, no job, no collateral, and 5 small children with Christmas approaching.
