Voting is Tremendous: Standing Up for Values in Every Election
When we head to the polls, we don’t just cast a ballot; we stand for values that form the bedrock of who we are. Leadership—and life itself—often revolves around the concept of value congruence. This is why we’re naturally drawn to specific organizations, ministries, and people; we resonate with their values. This deep connection is what makes voting so essential: we’re not just picking a candidate; we’re choosing someone whose values align with our own.

Missional Alignment Matters
Missional alignment is key to building trust in any leader. The media often tries to steer us toward strong opinions, sometimes even disdain for particular candidates. But that approach is shortsighted and, quite honestly, it’s idiotic. Let’s move beyond media-driven negativity and remember the wise words of George MacDonald: “To be trusted is a greater compliment than to be loved.” In voting, we’re not looking for a candidate we’d want to hang out with on the weekend. We’re looking for leaders we can trust based on their values—not their personalities or public personas shaped by others. Knowing a leader’s true values gives us the confidence to trust them, no matter what anyone else says.
A Duty That Reflects Our Investment in the Future
Voting is not just a right; it’s a duty that binds us to the future of this great constitutional republic. To avoid the polls is to shirk responsibility for the very values we hold dear. We are imperfect people, voting for imperfect candidates—but that’s no excuse to sit on the sidelines. As my father, Charlie “Tremendous” Jones, used to say, “I could write a book about what’s wrong with America, but I could write a library about what’s right with America.” So, let’s embrace what’s right. We owe it to our country, neighbors, and ourselves to engage and protect the values we treasure.
